 Ch. 5: Isis and Horus

 Thoth atop Djed

Geographical imagery was used extensively by the Egyptians as well as the Greeks. Here is the Egyptian god Thoth in the form of his sacred animal, the baboon, atop a form of the altar-shaped Egyptian Djed. The upper-left inset is Lepsius’ nineteenth century drawing of an ancient Egyptian representation of the same scene.35 Note how the geographical image was stylized in Egyptian art.
