 Ch. 5: Isis and Horus

 Horus, the Falcon

View the world from the south to see Horus, the falcon god, who was confounded with Horus, the son of Isis, and Ra, the sun god. It seems that at one point, Horus, the falcon, was considered to be a symbolic reflection or other characterization of the sun's mid-day being.45 The "Eye of Horus" often depicted in Egyptian art and hieroglyphics was, as one can now see, a stylized representation of this falcon's eye formed principally by Asia Minor, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Nile, and the Red Sea.
